Chapel of St George

The frescoes in the St George chapel, Ljubljana’s Patron saint, also aquaint the wiever with his biography. The two minor pictures on the right and the left wall of the chapel depict the Saint’s justification before the King, and his torture in goal; the major painting shows St George in the pagan tample and his martyrdom (he was beheaded). In the ceiling-piece – as in all the chapels – the Saint’s ascesion is depicted. By the entrance to the chapel there are two allegories: Faith, with the Cross, and Hope with an Anchor.  The wooden altar is crowned with the statue of the Madonna and the child Jesus. On the altar there are three paintings by Langus: from left to right St Theresa, St Joseph with Jesus, and St Marietta of Cortona. On the sides of the altar there are statues of St George and St Ahatius.
