URADNO POVABILO K ODDAJI PONUDBE ZA OBNOVO MILAVČEVIH ORGEL V LJUBLJANSKI STOLNICI

Spoštovani,

Komisija za obnovo Milavčevih orgel Stolne župnije Ljubljana – sv. Nikolaj vas vljudno vabi k oddaji ponudbe za izvedbo celovite obnove Milavčevih orgel v stolnici sv. Nikolaja v Ljubljani.

Milavčeve orgle, postavljene v prvi polovici 20. stoletja, predstavljajo izjemen dosežek slovenskega orglarstva pozne romantike in pomemben del evropske orgelske dediščine. Njihova umetniška, tehnična in zgodovinska vrednost daleč presega lokalne okvire, vendar je zob časa instrument močno
zaznamoval. Zaradi obrabe, tehnične zastarelosti in spremenjenih akustičnih pogojev so danes orgle v stanju, ki zahteva strokovno načrtovano, celovito in občutljivo obnovo.

OFFICIAL INVITATION TO SUBMIT A TENDER FOR THE RESTORATION OF THE MILAVEC ORGAN AT LJUBLJANA CATHEDRAL

Dear Sir or Madam,

The Commission for the Restoration of the Milavec Organ of the Cathedral Parish of Ljubljana – St. Nicholas cordially invites you to submit a tender for the comprehensive restoration of the Milavec Organ in St. Nicholas Cathedral, Ljubljana.

The Milavec Organ, built in the first half of the 20th century, represents an outstanding achievement of Slovenian late-Romantic organ building and constitutes an important part of the European organ heritage. Its artistic, technical, and historical value far exceeds the local context, yet the passage of time has left a significant mark on the instrument. Due to wear, technical obsolescence, and altered acoustic conditions, the organ is today in a state that requires a professionally designed, comprehensive, and sensitive restoration.

Although discussions about its renovation have been ongoing for several decades, a decisive step was made in 2021. On 5 May 2021, the first professional assessment of the instrument was carried out, clearly demonstrating the seriousness of its condition and the need for a carefully considered approach. Accordingly, the first step taken was the initiation of an extensive documentation process, the foundation of every high-quality restoration.

The documentation, carried out between July 2021 and September 2024, included detailed photographic recording of the instrument and all its components, precise measurements of pipe scales, bellows, windchests, the console, and organ cases, sound recordings, and monitoring of
microclimatic conditions within the space. The collected data provide a comprehensive understanding of the instrument, its construction, and the historical decisions of its makers, forming a solid basis for planning all subsequent conservation and restoration measures.

A particular emphasis of the project is the safeguarding of cultural heritage. The Milavec Organ is not merely a musical instrument but also a significant historical document, requiring protection from unprofessional interventions and the loss of authenticity. The restoration is therefore not only a technical task but also a cultural mission, one that will allow the instrument to regain its original sound and once again become the centre of the cathedral’s rich liturgical and concert life.

Within the contractor selection procedure, the Commission invites you, as a specialized organ-building company, to prepare a comprehensive tender for the restoration of the Milavec Organ. The tender should include a description of the proposed methodology and professional approach to the
restoration, a suggested timeline of works, a preliminary financial estimate, and a list of reference projects demonstrating your experience and expertise.

Before submitting your tender, we also invite you to inspect the instrument. Viewings will be possible by prior arrangement in October, November, and December 2025 at St. Nicholas Cathedral, Ljubljana. Please notify us of your intention to attend a viewing no later than 15 October 2025. The deadline for submission of the complete tender is 31 December 2025, and you will be informed of the outcome of the contractor selection by no later than 31 January 2026.

The restoration of the Milavec Organ is a project of exceptional cultural importance, making a significant contribution to the preservation of organ heritage in Slovenia and the wider European context. Your expertise, experience, and dedication are essential to ensuring that this historic instrument will, once restored, shine again in its full artistic and sonic splendour.
